A massive black hole

Black holes remain one of the greatest mysteries in our universe, continuing to intrigue scientists.

However, the huge black hole that was discovered 300 million light years from Earth surprised scientists.
Scientists have been observing this black hole in real time since 2019. At the centre of a galaxy called SDSS1335+0728, it emits light waves after awakening.

Such behavior is not unusual for large black holes; however, the behavior of the black hole known as Onsky, which scientists observe, is very strange, and experts cannot explain it.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that this black hole emits X-rays that are ten times more massive and ten times brighter.

This black hole releases hundreds of times more energy than other black holes, and its average duration is four and a half days, exceeding our current models’ limits, he said.

It is generally assumed that black holes act as space cleaners, consume everything nearby, and remain in place at the same time. Large black holes continue to expand, but usually remain quiet and inactive during this growth.

In 2019, we witnessed the formation of the first supermassive black hole, marking a remarkable moment as its awakening phase unfolded.

They mentioned that even after this, a few black holes were observed waking up, but we still cannot understand why this occurs. Research on Onsky will enhance our understanding of black holes.

A black hole does not emit any light on its own. Instead, its presence can be detected when it pulls in gas, dust, and other matter from the surrounding space. When matter experiences gravitational friction, it generates significant heat, causing the surrounding environment to glow.

The heat is caused by the strong pull of gravity, which makes the nearby area glow brightly. These findings were shared in the journal Nature Astronomy.
